Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) is the current standard for treatment of severe AS and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) offers an effective and comparable alternative for patients considered high or prohibitive risk for surgery.
A transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) repairs the valve by wedging a replacement valve into the aortic valve’s place through a catheter. It is less invasive than open surgery.
